Blog Topic #1: Native American Photographs and Your Preconceived Notions
Welcome! Please do the following in response to the photos of Native Americans from the mid- and late-nineteenth century I have collected..
Assignment: First, imagine what Native Americans would have looked like in the mid-, and late-nineteenth century. Choose THREE (3) photos to discuss here.
1. For EACH photo, do the following:
• Title your comment as the title of the photograph plus your name. Ex:
Buying_Baskets_from_Cherokee -- Chris Rice
• Describe what you see in the photo.
• What does this photo reveal about the way of life, living
conditions, and experiences of American Indians at the time
that it was taken?
• Analyze the details of the photos -- what stands out to you
about them? What surprises you? What can you tell (or
guess!) about the people in the pictures from these photos?
• If the photos you choose are from different Indian
communities or different time periods, what differences do
you notice between the photos?
2. Read at LEAST two (2) other people's posts and make comments about their observations.
